Handbags for Hunger 2026 – A Growing Community Effort Supporting Nourish NJ

Handbags for Hunger Supports Food Insecurity in Morris County

This year, our Caring for a Cause Charity Auction returns with a growing goal and an open invitation to our entire community. Every item donated—handbags, designer clothing, jewelry, accessories, and special luxury finds—is thoughtfully rehomed through an online auction, with 100% of proceeds benefiting Nourish NJ and their work fighting food insecurity across our region.

Giving is simple, meaningful, and costs nothing and gains you a little closet space. Donations are accepted February 9–16, and we make it easy with free local pickup—just call or text 862-332-1565 to schedule. Prefer to drop off? Items may also be delivered directly to Nourish NJ, 347 S. Salem Street, Victory Gardens. Whether you’re downsizing, refreshing your wardrobe, or passing along pieces with life left in them, your generosity helps feed local families while keeping quality items in circulation.

Once the donation drive wraps up, the community is invited to take part in the fun. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to be the first to know when the online auction launches, preview standout items donated by your neighbors, and bid generously for a good cause. Every winning bid helps feed a family and supports Nourish NJ’s vital work—proof that doing good can feel really good too.

We’re especially grateful to our friends at Sunrise Senior Living of Livingston and their residents for helping kick off this season of giving.

Local Donation Resources – Let Us Help You Rehome Items

At Caring Transitions of Parsippany, giving back is part of who we are. Many of our clients value the opportunity to donate unwanted items during their transition, and we take that to heart. That’s why we partner with a variety of local charities — to make sure these belongings don’t end up in landfills, but instead find new homes where they’re truly needed or help raise funds for a good cause.

Local Places Accepting Donations (and How We Can Help Get Them There)

We’ve gathered a list of local organizations in our area that gladly accept donations of gently used items. Whether you’re downsizing, decluttering, or simply want to help others, these resources provide meaningful ways to give back. And if coordinating donations feels overwhelming, our Caring Transitions team can take care of the process for you—making sure your items find a second life and benefit those who need them most.

  • Goodwill – Accepts a wide range of household goods at donation centers.
  • Salvation Army – Offers both drop-off locations and scheduled pick-ups for large items.
  • The Warehouse NJ – Supplies furniture to families in need; contact for donation guidelines.
  • Furniture Assist – Sunday-only drop-offs; can connect you with approved movers for paid pick-up to their warehouse.

These partners help keep quality items in circulation—furnishing homes instead of filling landfills.

Donation From Your Doorstep

Several local organizations make donating easy by offering scheduled doorstep pickups. With just a quick appointment, you can set items outside your home and they’ll take care of the rest—often leaving a donation receipt for your records. These services are perfect for smaller household items you’d like to pass along to a good cause without the hassle of transporting them yourself. And if you’d prefer, our Caring Transitions team can coordinate pickups on your behalf, ensuring your donations go smoothly and find their way to those who need them most.

  • Pickup Please – Supports veterans’ programs; collects small items one person can lift (up to ~20 items). Schedule 1–2 weeks in advance, place items out by 7 AM, and they’ll collect by day’s end.
  • GreenDrop – Similar guidelines to Pickup Please, with proceeds benefiting partner charities like the American Red Cross.
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore – Accepts approved furniture, appliances, and building materials. Submit photos for approval; pickups often available within a week if not fully booked.

These options are perfect for items that can be carried by one person and don’t require special handling.
